infection may be complicated by co-infection with other pathogens. We here describe the successful use of faecal microbiota transplantation to eradicate concomitant and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) KPC-producing Donor microbiota efficiently engrafted in the patient, and a donor-like microbial assemblage persisted in the patient during six months follow-up. The report explores the potential for the donor microbiota to eradicate and replace multi-resistant microorganisms.

The transmembrane potential is recorded from small isopotential clusters of 2-4 embryonic chick ventricular cells spontaneously generating action potentials. We analyze the cycle-to-cycle fluctuations in the time between successive action potentials (the interbeat interval or IBI). We also convert an existing model of electrical activity in the cluster, which is formulated as a Hodgkin-Huxley-like deterministic system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations describing five individual ionic currents, into a stochastic model consisting of a population of ∼20 000 independently and randomly gating ionic channels, with the randomness being set by a real physical stochastic process (radio static).

Article Synopsis
  • Mixed cultures of various EPS-producing Streptococcus thermophilus strains paired with a low EPS-producing Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus were tested for their effects on yoghurt texture.
  • The study found significant differences in texture properties among the yoghurts, with some Streptococcus strains exhibiting positive interactions that enhanced the overall texture.
  • Key factors influencing the yoghurt's mouthfeel included the formation of a balanced protein network containing EPS, the presence of capsular polysaccharides (CPS), and the distribution of different EPS types within the network, indicating that both concentration and structural characteristics are critical for texture quality.

We recorded transmembrane potential in whole cell recording mode from small clusters (2-4 cells) of spontaneously beating 7-day embryonic chick ventricular cells after 1-3 days in culture and investigated effects of the blockers D-600, diltiazem, almokalant, and Ba2+. Electrical activity in small clusters is very different from that in reaggregates of several hundred embryonic chick ventricular cells, e.g.

Oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) exerts a beneficial action in chronic bronchitis by reducing the number of exacerbations. There have been few studies of the effect of NAC (or of any other drug) on general well-being in chronic bronchitis. We used an established psychiatric instrument (General Health Questionnaire; GHQ) and a visual analogue scale (VAS) to measure well-being in a 22-week, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group study of NAC administered as sustained release tablets 600 mg b.
