Background: There is ongoing debate regarding the optimal management of older adult ankle fractures. The purpose of this study was to describe baseline characteristics and functional outcomes including complications in older adult patients receiving nonoperative treatment for low-energy ankle fracture and compare the outcomes of those with unstable vs stable fracture patterns.

Methods: Patients aged ≥65 from January 2012 to March 2019 that sustained an ankle fracture were identified.

The confluence of injection drug use (IDU), alcohol consumption, and viral hepatitis increases morbidity among persons living with HIV (PWH). We present a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial of alcohol reduction interventions in Thai Nguyen, Vietnam conducted between 2016-2018. We assessed hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) coinfection among PWH reporting hazardous alcohol consumption and examined differences in IDU and alcohol use by coinfection status.

Discharge Pain Medications: Do They Affect 6-Month Patient-Reported Outcomes After Operative Treatment of CMC Arthritis?

Background: The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between discharge opioids after operative treatment of carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) over a 6-month episode of care.

Methods: A total of 172 patients met inclusion criteria for this study. Patient-reported outcomes including patient-reported wrist/hand evaluation (PRWHE), single assessment numeric evaluation, and PRO measurement information system (PROMIS) global-10 questionnaires were collected prospectively and stored in an electronic data capture system until review for the purpose of this study.
