An investigation of the low-frequency (i.e., less than 5 THz), inter-molecular dynamics of three imidazolium-based ionic liquids-1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C4mim][NTf2]), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([C4mim][DCA]), and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([C2mim][DCA])-is presented using two-dimensional (2D) Raman-THz spectroscopy combined with molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Through comprehensive data analysis, we demonstrate that a χ(2)-induced artifact, arising from imperfect balancing in the conventional electro-optic sampling detection scheme, contributes significantly to the measured signal in 2D Raman-THz spectroscopy of non-centrosymmetric materials. The artifact is a product of two 1D responses, overwhelming the desired 2D response. We confirm that by analyzing the 2D Raman-THz response of an x-cut beta barium borate crystal.

Article Synopsis
  • * Research indicates that low glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) diets can help stabilize blood sugar levels and may aid in weight management for those with T2DM.
  • * Despite promising results, clinical practice guidelines reveal inconsistencies regarding the strength of evidence for adopting low-GI/GL dietary patterns in diabetes management, prompting this review to assess the effectiveness of these diets.

As populations age, chronic diseases accumulate, and new health conditions emerge. One noteworthy pair that warrants further evaluation is diabetes mellitus and sarcopenia, given that the latter occurs in 28 % of the population aged over 50 who have diabetes mellitus. The management of both entails nutritional interventions, making the development of unified dietary recommendations an alluring strategy.

Background: Thyroid storm is a state of circulating thyroid hormone excess leading to multiorgan dysfunction and systemic decompensation. It typically occurs in the setting of poorly controlled hyperthyroidism and a precipitating illness or event. Management of thyroid storm in pregnancy poses unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
