Identification of a new HLA-Cw*05 allele, HLA-Cw*0505*.

We have identified a new human leukocyte antigen-C allele in a Caucasian potential stem-cell donor. The new allele is identical to the other Cw*05 alleles in exon 2 but differs from Cw*0501 and *0503 at nucleotide position 379 in exon 3, where a C is substituted with a G. This results in an amino acid substitution from leucine to valine at residue 103 in alpha2 helix.

Regional expression of the histamine H(2) receptor in adult and developing rat brain.

Histamine H(2) receptor expression was studied in adult and developing rat brain. Northern blot and in situ hybridizations indicated that histamine H(2) receptor messenger RNA expression is widespread and not limited to neurons in the adult rat brain. Prominent H(2) receptor expression in the adult brain was seen in the dentate gyrus, hippocampal subfields CA1-CA3, piriform cortex and in some diencephalic nuclei, e.

Generation of a new protein purification matrix by loading ceramic hydroxyapatite with metal ions--demonstration with poly-histidine tagged green fluorescent protein.

The gene encoding the green fluorescent protein (GFP) from the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, was inserted under transcriptional control of the polyhedrin promoter of the Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus and expressed in the Spodoptera frugiperda insect cell line Sf9 during viral infection. The baculovirus transfervector pBlueBacHisB was used for constructing the recombinant baculovirus, so that the green fluorescent protein could be tagged with a poly-histidine tail. This fusion protein was utilized as a marker for evaluating the properties of metal ion loaded ceramic hydroxyapatite as a matrix in protein purification.
