Transposable elements (TEs) are DNA sequences that expand selfishly in the genome, possibly causing severe cellular damage. While normally silenced, TEs have been shown to activate during aging. DNA 5-methylcytosine (5mC) is one of the main epigenetic modifications by which TEs are silenced and has been used to train highly accurate age predictors.

The bowhead is also the second-largest animal on Earth, reaching over 80,000 kg. Despite its very large number of cells and long lifespan, the bowhead is not highly cancer-prone, an incongruity termed Peto's Paradox.

Workers of the leafcutter ant genus provide an extreme example of behavioral segregation among many phenotypically distinct worker types. We utilize the complex worker system of to test the molecular underpinnings of behavioral programming and, in particular, the extent of plasticity to reprogramming.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAging-associated inflammation, or 'inflammaging" is a driver of multiple age-associated diseases. Cyclic GMP-AMP Synthase (cGAS) is a cytosolic DNA sensor that functions to activate interferon response upon detecting viral DNA in the cytoplasm. cGAS contributes to inflammaging by responding to endogenous signals such as damaged DNA or LINE1 (L1) cDNA which forms in aged cells.
