We report on the course of development of 23 children with fifth-day fits during the years 1980 to 1985. The age of examination was 4.6 years on average.

29 of 50 premature infants with a birth weight up to 1,000 g survived and were examined between 2-9 years of age. 13 children showed no or only minimal abnormalities. 11 children were felt to require treatment but to have a good prognostic outcome.

Three members of a family showed a bifascicular bundle branch block in their electrocardiographic curves. One member had suffered from rheumatic myocarditis. The other two membranes did not show signs of cardiac disorder.
