Assessing the environmental performances of waste-to-energy plants: The case-study of the EMAS-registered waste incinerators in Italy.

This study evaluated the environmental performances of 15 Italian waste incineration (WI) plants registered to EMAS. From the EMAS Environmental Statements, the validated data related to 5 environmental aspects (emissions to air, energy consumption/production, waste production and reagent consumption) and 24 key indicators were analyzed to describe and assess the environmental performances of the plants in 2017-2019 in relation to the best available techniques associated emission levels (BAT-AELs) and other sectorial reference values. Inferior vena cava parameters predict re-admission in ischaemic heart failure.

Background: The clinical history of heart failure (HF) is usually characterized by frequent hospitalizations for decompensation. Therefore, several markers of subclinical hemodynamic congestion are under investigation for predicting early rehospitalization. In this field, the potential of ultrasound inferior vena cava (IVC) assessment has been recently investigated in HF but not yet assessed in the different aetiological categories.

Human skin penetration and distribution of nimesulide from hydrophilic gels containing nanocarriers.

The objective of this work was to study the in vitro skin penetration of a drug model (nimesulide) from semi-solid topical formulations containing nanospheres, nanocapsules or nanoemulsion. Nanoprecipitation, interfacial deposition and spontaneous emulsification methods were used to prepare the nanostructured suspension. The hydrodynamic diameters were 252nm for the nanoemulsion, 277nm for the nanocapsules and 202nm for the nanospheres containing nimesulide.

Intra-arterial hepatic chemotherapy: management of liver tumors by percutaneous port-a-cath positioning.

In the past, intrahepatic arterial locoregional chemotherapy was performed by surgical approach via gastroduodenal artery; early use of percutaneously placed arterial port was complicated by clotting and bleeding in 50% of pts. More recently, permanent catheters were positioned percutaneously in GDA by Japanese group and fixed to the artery by means of bucrylate in order to reduce dislocation. We present the technique and the preliminary results of percutaneous implantation of intraarterial catheters connected to a subcutaneous infusion reservoir for prolonged regional chemotherapy of hepatic tumors.
