Objective:  Studies outside of obstetrics suggest that patient-provider language concordance may impact the efficacy of educational interventions and overall patient satisfaction. Many pregnant patients who present to the hospital for delivery with initial plans to exclusively breastfeed ultimately leave the hospital supplementing with formula. We aim to examine the impact of language concordance between patients and their primary bedside nurse during the delivery hospitalization period on the relationship between intended and actual feeding practices for term newborns of primiparous patients at a single institution.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a phenolic natural product with a wide range of biological activities, including anticancer activity; however, the ester group of CAPE is metabolically labile. The corresponding amide, CAPA, has improved metabolic stability but limited anticancer activity relative to CAPE. We report the synthesis using flow and on-water Wittig reaction approaches of five previously reported and five novel CAPA analogues.

Purpose: Balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) imaging is susceptible to outflow effects where excited spins leaving the slice as part of the blood stream are misprojected back onto the imaging plane. Previous work proposed using slice-encoding steps to localize these outflow effects from corrupting the target slice, at the expense of prolonged scan time. This present study extends this idea by proposing a means of significantly reducing most of the outflowing signal from the imaged slice using a coil localization method that acquires a slice-encoded calibration scan in addition to the 2D data, without being nearly as time-demanding as our previous method.

Serum H NMR metabolomics has been used as a diagnostic tool for screening type 2 diabetes (T2D) with chronic kidney disease (CKD) as comorbidity. This work aimed to evaluate H NMR data to detect the initial kidney damage and CKD in T2D subjects, through multivariate statistical analysis. Clinical data and biochemical parameters were obtained for classifying five experimental groups using KDIGO guidelines: Control (healthy subjects), T2D, T2D-CKD-mild, T2D-CKD-moderate, and T2D-CKD-severe.
