Objective: To compare long-term outcomes after laparoscopic lavage with resection surgery for perforated diverticulitis, Hinchey grade III as practiced in Sweden for 3 years.

Background: Laparoscopic lavage has been studied in 3 randomized controlled trials. Long-term results indicate that additional surgery and a remaining stoma are less common after lavage compared with resection, but data from routine care and larger cohorts are needed to get a more complete picture.

Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most prevalent rheumatic disease in children, and the inflammatory process is widely studied, primarily characterized by its impact on joint health. Emerging evidence suggests that JIA may also affect the central nervous system (CNS). This study investigates the potential CNS involvement in JIA by analyzing the presence of astrocyte-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) and the S100B protein in plasma, both of which are indicative of astrocyte activity and blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity.

Familial dilated cardiomyopathy is a prevalent cause of heart failure that results from the mutation of genes encoding proteins of diverse function. Despite modern therapy, dilated cardiomyopathy typically has a poor outcome and is the leading cause of cardiac transplantation. The phosphatase PP2A at cardiomyocyte perinuclear mAKAPβ signalosomes promotes pathological eccentric cardiac remodeling, as is characteristic of dilated cardiomyopathy.

Introduction: A low count of airborne bacteria in the operating room is a means to prevent surgical site infection.

Aim: To investigate levels of airborne bacteria during surgical procedures in two operating rooms with turbulent mixing ventilation (TMV) and unidirectional airflow (UDAF), both with an air supply of 2600 L/s, when staff used either reusable scrub suits made from a mixed material (dry penetration ≤300 cfu) or single-use scrub suits made from polypropylene (dry penetration ≤100 cfu).

Material And Methods: In the TMV-room cfu/m air was measured during eight procedures with staff wearing reusable scrub suits and seven procedures with single-use scrub.

Aims: Cardiac energy metabolism is centrally involved in heart failure (HF), although the direction of the metabolic alterations is complex and likely dependent on the particular stage of HF progression. Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B) has been shown to modulate metabolic processes and to induce physiological cardiac hypertrophy; thus, it could be cardioprotective in the failing myocardium. This study investigates the role of VEGF-B in cardiac proteomic and metabolic adaptation in HF during aldosterone and high-salt hypertensive challenges.
