Severity of adult-onset asthma - a matter of blood neutrophils and severe obesity.

Background: Adult-onset asthma is associated with a poor treatment response. The aim was to study associations between clinical characteristics, asthma control and treatment in adult-onset asthma.

Methods: Previous participants within the population-based Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden studies (OLIN) were in 2019-2020 invited to clinical examinations including structured interviews, spirometry, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), skin prick test and blood sampling.

Granulocyte concentrates prepared from residual leukocyte units produced by the Reveos automated blood processing system.

Background: Granulocyte concentrates are mainly derived by apheresis technique from donors stimulated with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and steroids. The automated blood processing system Reveos, which is now increasingly used across the world, separates whole blood into four components, including a residual leukocyte unit containing granulocytes. The aim of this study was to produce an alternative granulocyte concentrate from leukocyte units produced by the Reveos system, and to assess the function of the granulocytes.

Reduced morbidity at diagnosis and improved glycemic control in children previously enrolled in DiPiS follow-up.

Aims/hypothesis: Children participating in longitudinal type 1 diabetes prediction studies were reported to have less severe disease at diabetes diagnosis. Our aim was to investigate children who from birth participated in the Diabetes Prediction in Skåne (DiPiS) study for metabolic status at diagnosis and then continued to be followed for 2 yr of regular clinical care.

Methods: Children, followed in DiPiS before diagnosis, were compared to children in the same birth cohort, who did not participate in follow-up.

Using Talking Mats to support communication in persons with Huntington's disease.

Background: Many individuals with Huntington's disease experience reduced functioning in cognition, language and communication. Talking Mats is a visually based low technological augmentative communication framework that supports communication in people with different cognitive and communicative disabilities.

Aims: To evaluate Talking Mats as a communication tool for people in the later stages of Huntington's disease.
