Hypothesis: The value of the maximal weight of a pendant drop formed at the end of a syringe needle is lower than the intensity of the corresponding capillary force. The balance of the external forces applied to the maximal pendant drop must be completed by the overpressure generated by the piston of the syringe. Inside the drop, the Laplace pressure corresponds to this overpressure.

One hundred and forty-four 10-wk-old Japanese quails (initial body weight = 199 ± 18 g) were divided into 3 dietary treatment groups (basic diet without SNP [SNP0], SNP0 with 3% SNP [SNP3], SNP0 with 6% SNP [SNP6]) with 4 replicates of 12 quails for a rearing period of 12 wk. At 22 wk of age, the final body weights of the SNP3 and SNP6 groups were significantly ( = 0.

As an alternative to the use of chemicals for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces of equipment in food industry, the efficacy of pulsed laser beams for removal and killing of adherent bacteria from stainless steel surfaces was assessed. Escherichia coli biofilms were produced under dynamic conditions in diluted nutritive medium incubated at 37 degrees C for 24 h. Influence of energy density and number of shots were tested at three wavelengths (1064, 532 and 355 nm).
