Lipid processing in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is important for maintaining the health and function of the neural retina and the RPE itself. One mode of en mass lipid transport from the RPE is apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins (Blps), the assembly of which is regulated by microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP). To gain an initial understanding of how the loss of MTP and, thereby, Blp secretion alters other lipid processing pathways in the RPE, we measured the expression of proteins associated with β-oxidation and lipid droplets in mice lacking MTP expression in the RPE (RPEΔMttp) and age-matched controls.

Our research explores the interplay between () cytolethal distending toxin (Cdt) and the host's inflammatory response in molar/incisor pattern periodontitis (MIPP). Cdt disrupts phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate (PIP3) signaling, influencing cytokine expression through canonical and non-canonical inflammasome activation as well as nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation, leading to inflammation in MIPP. THP-1 differentiated macrophages (TDMs) exposed to Cdt exhibited an upregulation of pro-inflammatory genes and subsequent cytokine release.

An eigenstructure analysis is used to identify anomalies in large acoustic array measurements of airfoil trailing edge noise. Cross-spectra of 102 microphones distributed in a spiral configuration were inspected considering a range of inflow conditions and airfoil configurations. A measurement expectation is set by repeat measurements of non-anomalous data and is used for the analysis of additional data.

Objective: to evaluate the results of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the elderly compared with younger patients.

Methods: we retrospectively reviewed computerized medical records of all patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for chronic or acute cholecystitis from January 1, 2011 to March 31, 2018 at a single teaching hospital. We stratified the patients into two groups: elderly (≥60 years of age) and younger (<60 years of age).

This paper looks to the natural world for solutions to many of the challenges associated with the design of fixed-wing cross-domain vehicles. One example is the common murre, a seabird that flies from nesting locations to feeding areas, dives underwater to catch prey and returns. This hunting expedition provides an outline of a possible mission for a cross-domain vehicle.
