Aims: To examine the interaction of diagnostic techniques, initial titres of Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli (Lxx), sugarcane genotype and thermotherapy on ratoon stunt (RSD) control.
Methods And Results: Single buds of RB867515, RB92579 and RB966928 were submitted to 50°C/2 h or 52°C/30 min under factorial block design and five replications; results were checked 9 months later by serological (DBI) and molecular (PCR) techniques.
To our knowledge, this is the first report on basal cell carcinoma with lung metastasis in a rat. A 6-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rat presented ulceration of the oral mucosa with surrounding tumor growth and white nodules in the lung. Microscopically, the mass showed solid, sheet-like growth with a partially lobular pattern and invaded the gingival mucosa, maxilla, and nasal submucosa.

Enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), a food-borne pathogen causing serious diarrheal diseases, must overcome attack by AMPs. Here, we show that resistance of EHEC against human cathelicidin LL-37, a primary AMP, was enhanced by butyrate, which has been shown to act as a stimulant for the expression of virulence genes.

HHV-6B real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) has been used to distinguish between active and latent viral infection. In this study, we developed a real-time RT-PCR assay to detect HHV-6A-specific transcripts and evaluated its reliability for analysis of clinical samples.
