Autism diagnoses in school-age children in southern Trøndelag 2016-2019.

Background: We have previously reported a significantly higher prevalence of autism spectrum disorders in southern Trøndelag among preschool children with mothers from a different national background than Norway. In this study, we wanted to investigate whether, in the same period and in the same geographic area, there was also an excess prevalence among school-age children. Additionally, we wanted to identify psychiatric and developmental comorbidities.

Multiple loci for foveolar vision in macaque monkey visual cortex.

In humans and nonhuman primates, the central 1° of vision is processed by the foveola, a retinal structure that comprises a high density of photoreceptors and is crucial for primate-specific high-acuity vision, color vision and gaze-directed visual attention. Here, we developed high-spatial-resolution ultrahigh-field 7T functional magnetic resonance imaging methods for functional mapping of the foveolar visual cortex in awake monkeys. In the ventral pathway (visual areas V1-V4 and the posterior inferior temporal cortex), viewing of a small foveolar spot elicits a ring of multiple (eight) foveolar representations per hemisphere.

Biological invasions pose significant threats to ecological and economic stability, with invasive pests like the Asian longhorned beetle ( Motschulsky, ALB) causing substantial damage to forest ecosystems. Effective pest management relies on comprehensive knowledge of the insect's biology and invasion history. This study uses genomics to address these knowledge gaps and inform existing biosurveillance frameworks.
