The influence of fluid resuscitation strategy on outcomes from dengue shock syndrome: a review of the management of 691 children in 7 Southeast Asian hospitals.

Introduction: The pathognomonic feature of dengue shock syndrome (DSS) is a transient capillary leak syndrome resulting in profound intravascular volume depletion. WHO management guidelines recommend particular parenteral fluid regimens during the critical leakage phase, including synthetic colloid solutions in certain circumstances. We set out to describe the actual fluid management strategies employed in different settings and to investigate relationships with clinical outcomes.

Systematic review of applied transportability and generalizability analyses: A landscape analysis.

Transportability and generalizability analysis are novel causal inference methods that quantitatively assess external validity. Currently, it is unclear how these analyses are applied in practice. To characterize applications and methods, we conducted a landscape analysis of applied transportability and generalizability analyses using a systematic literature search of PubMed, CINAHL and Embase supplemented with hand-searches.

Integrating Domestic Violence Education into the Pharmacy Curriculum.

Domestic violence (DV) is a pervasive issue with significant implications for public health, yet it remains under-addressed in healthcare systems. Pharmacists, as accessible healthcare providers, are in a unique position to identify and support individuals affected by DV, but training in this area is often lacking in pharmacy education. This study explores the challenges of and opportunities for integrating DV education into the pharmacy curriculum by interviewing twelve pharmacy educators from Monash University.

Out of Africa: Genetic characterization and diversity of Mashona cattle in the United States.

Mashona is a Sanga breed believed to be an ancient Bos taurus and Bos indicus composite. Since importation to the United States producers with relatively small herds (<70 cows per herd) and located in hot-humid regions have found them useful in crossbreeding programs due to purported resistance to pests and heat stress. This study evaluated the genomic composition of US Mashona to better understand their population history and determine level of genetic diversity.

Assessing sport commitment: the development and preliminary validation of recreational sport commitment questionnaire.

Background: Presently, where inactivity is an overarching problem globally, participation in recreational sports activities has become an important outlet for promoting healthy lifestyles. However, there is a lack of instruments to evaluate the commitment of recreational and leisure sports users. This study aimed to adapt, develop and provide preliminary validation of the Recreational Sport Commitment Questionnaire (RESQ).
