Background: Patients with heart failure and iron deficiency have diverse causes for hospitalization and death that might be affected by iron repletion.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore causes of hospitalizations and deaths in a randomized trial (IRONMAN) of heart failure comparing intravenous ferric derisomaltose (FDI) (n = 568) and usual care (n = 569).
Methods: Patients with heart failure, left ventricular ejection fraction ≤45%, and either transferrin saturation <20% or serum ferritin <100 μg/L were enrolled.
Autoimmune destruction of pancreatic β cells results in type 1 diabetes (T1D), with pancreatic immune infiltrate representing a key feature in this process. Studies of human T1D immunobiology have predominantly focused on circulating immune cells in the blood, while mouse models suggest diabetogenic lymphocytes primarily reside in pancreas-draining lymph nodes (pLN). A comprehensive study of immune cells in human T1D was conducted using pancreas draining lymphatic tissues, including pLN and mesenteric lymph nodes, and the spleen from non-diabetic control, β cell autoantibody positive non-diabetic (AAb+), and T1D organ donors using complementary approaches of high parameter flow cytometry and CITEseq.

Aims: Transthoracic echocardiography is recommended in all patients with acute coronary syndrome but is time-consuming and lacks an evidence base. We aimed to assess the feasibility, diagnostic accuracy, and time efficiency of hand-held echocardiography in patients with acute coronary syndrome and describe the impact of echocardiography on clinical management in this setting.
Methods And Results: Patients with acute coronary syndrome underwent both hand-held and transthoracic echocardiographies with agreement between key imaging parameters assessed using kappa statistics.
Background And Aims: The epidemiology of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) in Europe is poorly understood and data on long-term outcomes are lacking. A retrospective, observational, population-level study of validated cases of PPCM in Scotland from 1998 to 2017 was conducted.
Methods: Women hospitalized with presumed de novo left ventricular systolic dysfunction around the time of pregnancy and no clear alternative cause were included.
