Impact of high-dose busulfan plus melphalan as consolidation in metastatic Ewing tumors: a study by the Société Française des Cancers de l'Enfant.

Purpose: To improve the prognosis for patients with metastatic Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumors (ES/PNET) using conventional chemotherapy and consolidation high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) containing busulfan and melphalan.

Patients And Methods: Ninety-seven unselected patients with newly diagnosed metastatic ES/PNET received induction chemotherapy that included five cycles of cyclophosphamide 150 mg/m2/d for 7 days, doxorubicin 35 mg/m2/d once, followed by two cycles of ifosfamide 1.8 g/m2/d for 5 days, and etoposide 100 mg/m2/d for 5 days.

Long-term renal and hearing toxicity of carboplatin in infants treated for localized and unresectable neuroblastoma: results of the SFOP NBL90 study.

Background: A secondary end point of the NBL90 protocol (Rubie H et al. Pediatr Oncol 2001;36:247-250) was the concern in this infant population for possible carboplatin-(CBDCA) induced late side effects including impaired renal and hearing functions.

Procedure: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR), tubular function (TF), pure tone audiometry (PTA), high-frequency, and transient evoked-otoacoustic emission were prospectively assessed in 30 children alive and disease-free 6 years after the end of the treatment.

[Hypertrophic pulmonary osteo-arthropathy revealed by a pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma in a 15-year-old girl].

Unlabelled: Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor of the lung, that may be revealed by hypertrophic pulmonary osteo-arthropathy.

Case Report: A 15-year-old patient was admitted because of a 1-month history of pneumonia associated with clubbing. A hypertrophic pulmonary osteo-arthropathy due to a paraneoplastic syndrome associated with lung epithelioid hemangioendothelioma was diagnosed.
