Claw lesion status in Brazilian commercial sow herds from 2013 to 2023.

Introduction: Claw lesions significantly contribute to lameness, greatly affecting sow welfare. This study investigated different factors that would impact the severity of claw lesions in the sows of Brazilian commercial herds.

Methods: A total of 129 herds ( = 12,364 sows) were included in the study.

Use of poxvirus display to select antibodies specific for complex membrane antigens.

Antibody discovery against complex antigens is limited by the availability of a reproducible pure source of concentrated properly folded antigen. We have developed a technology to enable direct incorporation of membrane proteins such as GPCRs and into the membrane of poxvirus. The protein of interest is correctly folded and expressed in the cell-derived viral membrane and does not require any detergents or refolding before downstream use.

Impact of Induction Therapy on the Outcome of Immunoglobulin Light Chain Amyloidosis after Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

With the availability of immunomodulatory imide drugs (IMiDs) and proteasome inhibitors (PI), most patients with immunoglobulin light chain amyloidosis (AL) receive induction therapy before autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HCT). In this study we evaluated the type of induction therapy and its impact on the outcome of auto-HCT in AL. We identified 128 patients with AL who underwent high-dose chemotherapy and auto-HCT at our institution between 1997 and 2013.

Impact of health challenges on pig growth performance, carcass characteristics, and net returns under commercial conditions.

Understanding how disease affects commercial production is imperative for pig producers to quantify its full impact on pig performance, carcass quality, and net returns. The objective of this experiment was to assess the productivity and economic importance of naturally occurring health challenges () under commercial conditions. Three 1,000 pig grow-finish facilities received 936 pigs each.

Inpatient vs outpatient autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma.

Background: High-dose chemotherapy and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HCT) are commonly performed for multiple myeloma (MM) patients and may be as safe in the outpatient setting as in the inpatient setting.

Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective analysis of all MM patients undergoing auto-HCT between January 2008 and December 2012. We categorized patients as outpatient vs inpatient auto-HCT and compared clinical characteristics and outcomes between the groups.
