Objectives: Brazil has high rates of COVID-19 and tuberculosis among healthcare workers (HCWs). Personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential for their protection. We aimed to evaluate PPE use, training, and preparedness among HCWs in the early months of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Brazil.

From mudflats and saltpans to Open Sea: Plastic ingestion and PBDE/MeO-BDE accumulation in Waterbirds from southern Portugal.

Plastic ingestion greatly affects waterbirds, causing lacerations and potentially leading to health disruptions from chemical leaching. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), used as flame retardants in plastics, remain persistent in the environment despite restrictions, along with the less studied methoxylated PBDEs (MeO-BDEs), that may result from their transformation. Since most plastic pollution in the heavily impacted marine environment comes from terrestrial sources, freshwater/estuarine and coastal environments can also be heavily exposed to contamination.

Comparative analysis between abdominal aortic aneurysm and popliteal artery aneurysm.

Objective: Infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and popliteal artery aneurysm (PAA) are localized arterial dilatations with distinct clinical outcomes. This study aimed to comprehensively compare these two types of aneurysms' biomechanical, histological, and immunohistochemical characteristics.

Methods: This study included 180 patients with AAA and 18 with PAA.

Bladder tumors with aggressive characteristics often present microenvironmental niches marked by low oxygen levels (hypoxia) and limited glucose supply due to inadequate vascularization. The molecular mechanisms facilitating cellular adaptation to these stimuli remain largely elusive. Employing a multi-omics approach, we discovered that hypoxic and glucose-deprived cancer cells enter a quiescent state supported by mitophagy, fatty acid β-oxidation, and amino acid catabolism, concurrently enhancing their invasive capabilities.
