Provenance of late Pleistocene loess in central and eastern Europe: isotopic evidence for dominant local sediment sources.

Loess profiles along the Danube River provide a record of long-term Quaternary dust (loess) deposition in central-eastern Europe. Here, Sr-Nd isotopic data from four loess-palaeosol profiles (47 samples) spanning the last two-glacial-interglacial cycles are presented. The isotopic compositions generated by this study are compared with bedrock and sedimentary samples from Europe and North Africa to decipher the sources of sediment.

Regulation of sod1 mRNA and protein abundance by zinc in fission yeast is dependent on the CCR4-NOT complex.

Zinc is an essential micronutrient that serves as a cofactor in a wide variety of enzymes, including Cu-Zn Superoxide Dismutase 1 (Sod1). We have discovered in Schizosaccharomyces pombe that Sod1 mRNA and protein levels are regulated in response to cellular zinc availability. We demonstrate that lower levels of Sod1 mRNA and protein accumulate under low zinc conditions, and that this regulation does not require the sod1 promoter or known factors that regulate transcription of sod1 in response to zinc and other environmental stresses.

Utilizing Quality Improvement Methodology to Address Disparities in Colorectal Cancer Screening Between Faculty and Resident Physicians.

Health system data from a large academic medical center revealed a 14% lower rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in resident patient panels compared to faculty patient panels. This resident-led quality improvement (QI) work identified causes for disparities in CRC screening and implemented an innovative panel management intervention to reduce CRC screening disparities. Analysis was conducted across two academic primary care clinics at a single institution.

Are Nurse Residents Ready for Evidence-Based Practice?

A nursing professional development practitioner and clinical nurse specialists developed a curriculum, including supportive materials to complete evidence-based practice projects, as part of a new nurse residency program. Residents were guided through the evidence-based practice process. Challenges uncovered during the implementation phase suggested a need to reevaluate resident readiness.

This Anaphylaxis Manifesto calls on communities to prioritise 10 practical actions to improve the lives of people at risk of serious allergic reactions. The Global Allergy and Asthma European Network and the European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients' Associations (EFA) compiled patient-centric priorities. We used qualitative consensus methods, research evidence and feedback from over 200 patient groups, stakeholder organisations and healthcare professionals.
