Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a standard operating procedure for atrial fibrillation (AF) alarms in clinical settings and to assess how well automated monitoring detects AF in patients with ischemic strokes at two hospitals in Berlin.
  • - Researchers analyzed ECG data from 109 selected stroke patients who had AF alarms, categorizing the data into AF, non-AF, or artifacts to validate the alarms against patient histories and treatment plans.
  • - The primary outcome was to measure the rate of unrecognized AF cases that the monitoring system identified but clinical teams missed, while secondary outcomes focused on potential undiagnosed AF leading to anticoagulant treatment.

To increase the performance of optical systems, a good antireflective coating is required to ensure low reflectance and high transmittance of optical surfaces. Further problems, such as fogging that causes light scattering, negatively affect the image quality. This implies that other functional properties are also required.

A major problem for optical systems is the polarization splitting occurring at any interface in the event of oblique light. Low-index nanostructured silica layers were produced by overcoating an initial organic structure with silica and subsequent removal of the organic constituents. The nanostructured layers can be tailored to achieve defined low effective refractive indices down to 1.

Aims: We investigated the incremental advantage in terms of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) reduction in patients affected by heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) treated with sacubitril/valsartan (S/V) and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA) versus patients treated with S/V only.

Methods: Consecutive adult patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of ≤40% who were followed in our outpatient clinic from January 2016 to December 2019 and treated with S/V were analysed.

Results: Out of eligible 147 patients, 99 were treated with S/V+MRA at baseline and 48 patients were treated with S/V.

Unlabelled: Although disease etiologies differ, heart failure patients with preserved and reduced ejection fraction (HFpEF and HFrEF, respectively) both present with clinical symptoms when under stress and impaired exercise capacity. The extent to which the adaptation of heart rate (HR), stroke volume (SV), and cardiac output (CO) under stress conditions is altered can be quantified by stress testing in conjunction with imaging methods and may help to detect the diminishment in a patient's condition early. The aim of this meta-analysis was to quantify hemodynamic changes during physiological and pharmacological stress testing in patients with HF.
