Introduction: Diverse neurological conditions are reported associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus; neurological symptoms are the most common conditions to persist after the resolution of acute infection, affecting 20% of patients 6 months after acute illness. The COVID-19 Neuro Databank (NeuroCOVID) was created to overcome the limitations of siloed small local cohorts to collect detailed, curated, and harmonized de-identified data from a large diverse cohort of adults with new or worsened neurological conditions associated with COVID-19 illness, as a scientific resource.

Methods: A Steering Committee including US and international experts meets quarterly to provide guidance.

Primary human hepatocyte (PHH) transplantation is a promising alternative to liver transplantation, whereby liver function could be restored by partial repopulation of the diseased organ with healthy cells. However, currently PHH engraftment efficiency is low and benefits are not maintained long-term. Here we refine two male mouse models of human chronic and acute liver diseases to recapitulate compromised hepatocyte proliferation observed in nearly all human liver diseases by overexpression of p21 in hepatocytes.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are researching a new way to help people with liver diseases by using healthy liver cells from humans, called primary human hepatocytes (PHH).
  • They found that using special mRNA to deliver growth factors in mice can make these healthy cells grow better in the sick liver.
  • This method could make it easier to use cell therapies to treat serious liver problems in the future.
