Expanding healthcare access in rural sub-Saharan Africa.

While healthcare delivery in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has made notable strides, the benefits of improved access predominantly favour urban areas, leaving rural communities largely underserved. A multitude of barriers contribute to this disparity, including inadequate funding, a shortage of trained medical professionals, insufficient transportation, underdeveloped infrastructure, and entrenched educational and cultural beliefs. As rural SSA populations grapple with escalating burdens in infectious diseases such as HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and heightened risks during childbirth and pregnancy, it becomes imperative to confront these obstacles in healthcare delivery and enhance healthcare provision in these regions.

Opportunities and challenges for the integration of managing non-communicable diseases within HIV care and treatment services in Tanzania.

Background: People living with HIV and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are reported to experience challenges in accessing affordable and high-quality NCD care services. Consequently, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends care integration of NCDs within the HIV services in resource-limited regions. The available opportunities and challenges need to be understood and addressed for an effective integration process.

Six month incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events among adults with HIV in northern Tanzania: a prospective observational study.

Objectives: We aimed to prospectively describe incident cardiovascular events among people living with HIV (PLWH) in northern Tanzania. Secondary aims of this study were to understand non-communicable disease care-seeking behaviour and patient preferences for cardiovascular care and education.

Six-month incidence of hypertension and diabetes among adults with HIV in Tanzania: A prospective cohort study.

Data describing the incidence of hypertension and diabetes among people with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa remain sparse. In this study, adults with HIV were enrolled from a public clinic in Moshi, Tanzania (September 2020-March 2021). At enrollment, a survey was administered to collect information on comorbidities and medication use.
