The principal legal resolutions about medical liability lawsuits in Chile are analyzed. The causes for the accusations and for the increase in the number of suits in Chile, according to research performed by the authors, are described. An improvement in patient-physician relationships, a better alliance among physicians, a correct certification of medical specialties, the demand of adequate technological and humans resources to perform medical functions optimally, the supervision of medical work and the legal support and advice of medical societies are recommended strategies to prevent these lawsuits.

One-hundred forty-five cases of medical liability lawsuits originating in Chile from January 1987 to June 1991 and studied at the Medico Legal Service, were reviewed. A persistent increase in the number of accusations is observed in these five years. The principal medical specialties involved are Obstetrics and Gynecology (32%), General Surgery (18%), Internal Medicine (15%) and Pediatrics (9%).

We present the experience during 1987-1991 years, about Female Genital Tuberculosis, at the University of Chile Clinical Hospital. We present 16 cases with histologic and bacteriologic demonstration; in two cases also positive cultures for myco bacterium tuberculosis. It is made emphasis about personal characteristics of patients physical examination findings, laboratories procedures and technics of diagnostic, treatment and posterior control of patients.

Experience about urethral diverticulum in the female, is presented by the University of Chile Clinical Hospital's Services of Obstetrics-Gynecology and Urology, from 1954 to 1990 years. 34 cases were studied. This pathology was more frequent in patients in there forties and fifties.
