Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the installation of groundwater contamination remediation units in Bihar, India, focusing on contaminants like arsenic, iron, and fluoride, which are significant issues for drinking water quality in the region.
  • It reports that most arsenic remediation units are located near the River Ganges, while iron units are primarily in the eastern districts, and fluoride units are only south of the river, yet there's a mismatch between these installations and actual contamination levels.
  • The study suggests that outdated maps and administrative decisions may have influenced the placement of these units, leading to many areas still needing intervention while units are installed where they might not be as necessary.

Background: It is difficult for clinicians to make predictions for cancer progression or outcomes based on AJCC staging for individual patients. Models individualising risk prediction for clinical outcomes are developed using patient level data, advanced statistical techniques, and artificial intelligence.

Methods: A systematic search identified cutaneous melanoma prognostic prediction tools published between January 1985-March 2023.

Background: Microbial Keratitis (MK) is a leading cause of corneal blindness due to infection and its consequences, with a higher incidence in resource-limited nations. Hospital-based patient records from different parts of Nepal suggest patients often use traditional eye medicine to treat MK. Traditional healers (TH) within the community are often the first point of care for MK management.

Objective: Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) is an important management tool for early-stage melanoma. Different radiopharmaceuticals are used internationally to localise the sentinel node using lymphoscintigraphy (LSG) before surgery. Recent reports have suggested that a delayed interval between LSG and SLNB using Tc-labelled nanocolloid tracer has an adverse survival impact, but not with Tc-labelled antimony sulphide colloid.

A 51-year-old woman with a 2-mm-Breslow-thickness melanoma on her arm had 99mTc-nanocolloid lymphoscintigraphy to localize the associated sentinel lymph node. A single axillary node was identified, and histology confirmed a micrometastasis of breast tissue origin. Imaging of the patient's breasts and subsequent biopsy confirmed ipsilateral stage III breast cancer, which was treated with lumpectomy and axillary node clearance.
