The systemic inflammatory response after cardiopulmonary bypass has been widely studied. However, there is a paucity of studies that focus on the local inflammatory changes that occur in the pericardial cavity. The purpose of this study is to assess the inflammatory mediators in the pericardial fluid of patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Optimized biochemical method for human Polyphosphate quantification.

Polyphosphate (polyP), a biopolymer composed of phosphates, impacts a wide range of biological functions and pathological conditions in all organisms. However, polyP's intricate physiology and structure in human cells have remained elusive, largely due to the lack of a reliable quantification method including its extraction. In this study, we assess critical points in the whole process: extraction, purification, and quantification polyP from human cell lines.

Histopathologic Features of Acral Skin Biopsies in Dermatomyositis Patients and Comparison to Histopathologic Features in Non-Acral Biopsies.

Background: Acral lesions may represent the best/only skin lesions to biopsy in patients suspected to have dermatomyositis (DM). However, histopathologic features of acral DM skin lesions are poorly characterized.

Methods: We reviewed 50 acral biopsies from 46 DM patients and assessed numerous histopathologic features.

Conceptual Frameworks in Neurology Education Research.

This article discusses conceptual frameworks in neurology education research. We provide practical case examples highlighting the conceptual framework development process for different research scenarios in neurology education. We explore the steps that shape the conceptual framework process, including defining the educational problem, exploring the scholarly conversation on the topic of study through understanding the literature and outlining its gaps, constructing research questions, selecting the theoretical frameworks that underpin the study, and choosing the appropriate methodology and methods for the research questions.
