Introduction: Sleep-related breathing disorders are highly prevalent in patients with ischemic stroke. Among sleep-disordered breathing disorders, obstructive sleep apnea is the most represented one, but central sleep apnea, isolated or in the context of a periodic breathing/Cheyne-Stokes respiration, is frequently reported in these patients. Although chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is recognized as being a life-limiting condition with palliative care needs, palliative care provision is seldom implemented. The disease unpredictability, the misconceptions about palliative care being only for people with cancer, and only relevant in the last days of life, prevent a timely integrated care plan. This systematic review aimed to explore how palliative care is provided in advanced COPD and to identify elements defining integrated palliative care.

This paper will deal with the role of vena cava filters in the management of venous thromboembolism. The role of medical therapy, indications and contraindications for the placement of caval filters will be discussed. An overview of the currently available filters will be given, and technical aspects, as well as complications related to the procedure will be discussed.

We report the case of a 35-year-old woman who has been admitted to our emergency room because of the sudden onset of a left-sided hemiparesis. The physical examination showed disseminated teleangiectases on the upper and lower lip, on the mucosal surface of the tongue and on the skin. The cerebral CT scan presented a right-sided fronto-parietal lesion, more likely an abscess, confirmed on surgical removal.
