(1) Background: Chagas disease is a public health problem affecting nearly 2 million women of reproductive age in Latin America. From these, 4-8% can transmit the infection to the foetus through the vertical route, whereas horizontal transmission through milk during breastfeeding remains controversial. Therefore, the presence of () DNA in the milk of women seropositive for Chagas disease was analysed to determine whether a relationship with the infection of their children can exist.

In Mexico, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a serious public health concern. As experts in drug therapy, pharmacists are essential additions to multidisciplinary diabetes patient care teams. There have been no systematic reviews or meta-analyses performed on pharmacist-led interventions (PIs) in Mexico; therefore, the impact of PIs on patients remains poorly explored.

Article Synopsis
  • In vitro and in vivo studies indicate that TNF-α, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, is linked to poor cancer prognosis, prompting evaluation of its genetic variations and serum levels in Mexican neuroblastoma (NB) patients.
  • Analysis of specific TNF-α genetic polymorphisms (-308 G>A and -238 G>A) revealed significant differences between NB patients and healthy controls, with certain genotypes being associated with decreased risk or susceptibility to NB and unfavorable tumor characteristics.
  • Findings suggest that the rs1800629 AA genotype may increase susceptibility to NB and correlate with poorer prognosis, emphasizing the need for further research to validate these associations on a larger scale.

Article Synopsis
  • Outpatient management of febrile neutropenia (FN) in pediatric cancer patients has shown to be as safe and effective as inpatient care, prompting this cost-minimization analysis (CMA) in Mexico.
  • The study analyzed data from 117 FN episodes, finding that outpatient management resulted in an average savings of $1,087 per episode, equating to a 92% reduction in total costs compared to inpatient treatment.
  • The findings suggest that outpatient care is more cost-effective, supporting its implementation in the Mexican public health care system for managing FN in children with cancer.

The gut microbiota harbors diverse bacteria considered reservoirs for antimicrobial resistance genes. The global emergence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-PE) significantly contributes to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). We investigated the presence of ESBL-producing (ESBL-PEco) and ESBL-producing (ESBL-PKpn) in neonatal patients' guts.
