Objective: To describe the path of the infrapatellar branch of the saphenous nerve (IBSN) using the medial joint line, anterior tibial tuberosity (ATT), tibial collateral ligament and a horizontal line parallel to the medial joint line that passes over the ATT, as reference points, in order to help surgeons to diminish the likelihood of injuring this nerve branch during reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) using flexor tendons.
Methods: Ten frozen knees that originated from amputations were examined. Through anatomical dissection performed with the specimens flexed, we sought to find the IBSN, from its most medial and proximal portion to its most lateral and distal portion.

Physical exercise appears to affect both blood magnesium status and erythrocyte 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) concentration. Concentrations of erythrocyte and plasma magnesium (ErMg and PlMg) and erythrocyte 2,3-DPG were measured three times over a period of 2 months in a group of 11 athletes who were training for a marathon. The concentration of 2,3-DPG was found to be significantly increased at the end of the 1st month (P < 0.

All players showed no impairment of physical performance and had a dietary iron intake adequate to cover the iron losses. Serum iron, TIBC, % transferrin saturation and serum ferritin were not significantly different in athletes and controls: serum haptoglobin was significantly lower in the former than in the latter, the result probably indicating an increase in resting intravascular hemolysis.

Some serum copper variables were assessed in 19 male professional soccer players involved in alternating aerobic-anaerobic physical activity and in a control group of 24 male subjects engaged in ordinary physical activity. In the soccer player's group, lower serum ceruloplasmin levels and lower serum ceruloplasmin biological activity were found than in the control group. Serum copper levels were comparable in both groups.
