Various birth characteristics may influence healthy childhood development, including the risk of developing childhood brain tumors (CBTs). In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between delivery methods, obstetric history, and birth anthropometrics with the risk of CBTs. This study used data from the Childhood Brain Tumour Epidemiology Study of Ontario (CBREO) which included children 0-15 years of age and newly diagnosed with CBTs from 1997 to 2003.

The intestinal mucosa must balance tolerance to commensal microbes and luminal antigens with rapid detection of enteric pathogens in order to maintain homeostasis. This balance is facilitated through the regulation of epithelial layer integrity by innate immune receptors. Certain NOD-like receptors (NLRs) expressed in intestinal epithelial cells, including NLRC4 and NLRP9B, form inflammasomes that protect against pathogens by activating caspase-1 to cause extrusion of infected cells.

The antibody-coupled T cell receptor (ACTR) platform is an autologous engineered T cell therapy combining the cell-killing ability of T cells and the tumor-targeting ability of coadministered antibodies. Activation of the T cell product ACTR707 is dependent on the engagement of antibody bound to target cells via the CD16 domain of the chimeric receptor (CD16V-CD28-CD3ζ). ACTR707 in combination with the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab was evaluated in the ATTCK-20-03 study, a multisite, single-arm, open-label phase I trial in B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

Objective: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil percentage, protein concentration, and glucose level are typically measured at diagnosis and serially during the treatment of CSF shunt infections. The objective of this retrospective cohort study was to describe the longitudinal profile of CSF parameters in children with CSF shunt infections and assess their association with treatment and outcome.

Methods: Participants were children treated at 11 tertiary pediatric hospitals in Canada and the United States for CSF shunt infection, from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2019, with hardware removal, external ventricular drain placement, intravenous antibiotics, and subsequent permanent shunt reinsertion.
