Measuring the size of oil droplets in a flow cytometer using Mie resonances: A possible size calibration ladder for 0.5-6 μm.

An emulsion of silicone oil droplets in aqueous buffer produces a distinctive series of peaks or resonances in the side scatter histogram in a flow cytometer. As many as 12 peaks are observed in the violet-side scatter channel at 405 nm, with half that number observed in the blue side scatter channel at 488 nm. Using the index of refraction of the oil and buffer, the wavelength of light, and the collection angle and gain of the instrument, we assign the peaks to specific diameters at which Mie resonances occur.

Enhancer Dynamics and Spatial Organization Drive Anatomically Restricted Cellular States in the Human Spinal Cord.

Here, we report the spatial organization of RNA transcription and associated enhancer dynamics in the human spinal cord at single-cell and single-molecule resolution. We expand traditional multiomic measurements to reveal epigenetically poised and bivalent active transcriptional enhancer states that define cell type specification. Simultaneous detection of chromatin accessibility and histone modifications in spinal cord nuclei reveals previously unobserved cell-type specific cryptic enhancer activity, in which transcriptional activation is uncoupled from chromatin accessibility.

Snail Flap for Scalp Reconstruction: Technique and Outcomes.

Objectives: Local flaps are widely described for scalp reconstruction, but there is minimal literature surrounding the snail flap. The objective of this study was to describe the surgical technique and outcomes of scalp reconstruction with the snail flap.

Methods: This case series retrospectively evaluated all consecutive patients undergoing scalp snail flap reconstruction from January 1, 2019 to February 1, 2024.

Synthesis and characterization of isostructural annulated actinocenes.

An isostructural series of four annulated actinocene complexes, M(hdcCOT) (M = Th, U, Np, Pu), is reported. The syntheses proceed through a trivalent starting material when M = U, Np, Pu with subsequent oxidation or, in the case of M = Th, directly from ThCl(DME). X-ray crystallography shows that each actinocene has molecular point symmetry in the solid state, with the metal atoms symmetrically bonded to two 10π-aromatic [8]annulene dianion rings.
