Background: Alpha-smooth muscle actin (αSMA) has been widely investigated in malignancies, primarily concerning its expression in cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) inside the tumor stroma. Microscopic examination indicates that αSMA expression is not confined to the tumor stromal compartment but is also present in a subset of tumor cells, and this expression correlates with an enhanced invasive phenotype of malignant cells from lung, liver, or ovarian malignancies. Information on actin expression in breast cancer (BC) cells is scarce, and its influence on clinicopathological characteristics remains ambiguous due to conflicting findings in the literature.

Urbanization and industrialization are important transformations shaping the current statement of the society, enhancing significantly the combustion emissions which are threatening the global climate system, air quality, and human health. These emissions contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) which are well known for their high toxicity. The present study is the first assessing the seasonal variation of 17 PAHs in size segregated fractions of atmospheric aerosol particles from a Romanian metropolitan area.

Clinical, epidemiological and molecular aspects of patients with mpox in Romania.

Introduction: To better understand the factors which influence the spread of monkeypox (mpox) infection, the patients that tested positive for mpox virus by real-time PCR in one of the main infectious diseases centers in Bucharest were analyzed in this study, amounting to one third of the confirmed cases in Romania.

Methods: Clinical data and laboratory tests were used to build the patient profiles. In the case of positive mpox results, next-generation sequencing of the viral genome was also performed to better comprehend the epidemiology of the infections and the evolutionary path of this virus.
