A Prospective Cohort Study of Human Papillomavirus-Driven Oropharyngeal Cancers: Implications for Prognosis and Immunisation.

Aims: Oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) is increasing on a global scale, including the component driven by high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV); contemporary data that provides insight into the prognosis of this disease in addition to the fraction attributable to HR-HPV are essential to inform primary and secondary disease management strategies.

Materials And Methods: A population-based cohort of 235 patients diagnosed with OPC between 2013 and 2015 in Scotland was assessed for HPV status using molecular genotyping. Associations between HR-HPV status and key clinical and demographic variables were estimated using the Pearson chi-squared test.

Laryngeal biopsies: are we doing more, and why? A decade of results.

Background: Over the last decade, we have observed an escalating trend in the number of laryngeal biopsies performed, despite the incidence of laryngeal cancer remaining constant. This study aimed to quantify the rate of laryngeal biopsies and record the indications.

Method: A retrospective analysis of laryngeal biopsies performed in North Glasgow, Scotland, UK, between 2001 and 2010, was conducted.

Healing of two microarterial anastomoses with diameter mismatch.

Background: The use of fascial perforating vessels as recipients for microvascular composite tissue autotransplants has led to vessel diameter discrepancy becoming an increasingly common finding. Little evidence, however, is available to direct the choice of anastomotic technique where a discrepancy exists. We have been studying two methods of anastomosing arteries where a small-to-large discrepancy exists-a 45° section of the smaller vessel, and invaginating the smaller vessel inside the larger.

The incidence of premalignant and malignant disease in Reinke's edema.

Reinke's edema is a benign lesion of the vocal folds affecting the subepithelial space. As part of a study of the management of Reinke's edema, we aimed to determine the prevalence of dysplasia and malignancy in histologically proven Reinke's edema. A retrospective analysis of all laryngeal biopsies performed in north Glasgow, United Kingdom, between 2001 and 2010 was carried out.
