Background: Narcolepsy is a chronic disorder that requires lifelong management; however, few studies have evaluated disease burden of narcolepsy. We estimated the healthcare burden of narcolepsy in Japan using data from the Japan Medical Data Center health insurance claims database.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of clinical burden, healthcare resource utilization, and costs among incident narcolepsy cases and matched controls identified between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2019.

The crystal structures of (±)-mandelamide, -mandelamide, and enantioenriched mandelamide (94 : 6 ) were determined. Diastereomeric cocrystal pairs of -mandelamide with both enantiomers of mandelic acid and proline were synthesized. The diastereomeric cocrystal pairs of -mandelamide with /-mandelic acid form 1:1 cocrystals in each case, while the diastereomeric cocrystal pairs of -mandelamide with proline have different stoichiometries.

The complex relationship between inflammation, its effects on neuronal excitability and the ensuing plasticity of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) sensory neurons remains to be fully explored. In this study, we have employed a system of experiments assessing the impact of inflammatory conditioned media derived from activated immune cells on the excitability and activity of DRG neurons and how this relates to subsequent growth responses of these cells. We show here that an early phase of increased neuronal activity in response to inflammatory conditioned media is critical for the engagement of plastic processes and that neuronal excitability profiles are linked through time to the structural phenotype of individual neurons.

Prepatellar bursitis is a common cause of anterior knee pain. We present an unusual case of massive bilateral traumatic haemorrhagic prepatellar bursitis managed with surgical excision and describe our operative findings. The patient presented with large bilateral knee swellings which had been present for six years following a fall onto both knees.
