Benign childhood myositis is a self-limiting inflammatory condition that primarily affects schoolaged boys during the winter months. It is associated with respiratory viral infections, such as influenza A and B viruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and Mycoplasma pneumoniae, among others. In September 2022, an epidemiological alert was raised due to a high number of reported cases in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RF CA) for treating paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) using a real-world multi-center registry approach.
  • A total of 2,470 patients were assessed, with most procedures performed without fluoroscopy, achieving an 81.6% success rate in preventing all forms of atrial arrhythmias after one year.
  • The findings highlight that modern techniques and protocols in RF CA lead to positive clinical outcomes and a low complication rate of 1.9%.

Background: CONVERGE was a prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled trial that evaluated the safety of Hybrid Atrial Fibrillation Convergent (HC) and compared its effectiveness to endocardial catheter ablation (CA) for the treatment of persistent atrial fibrillation (PersAF) and longstanding PersAF (LSPAF). In 2020, we reported that CONVERGE met its primary safety and effectiveness endpoints. The primary objective of the present study is to report CONVERGE trial results for quality of life (QOL) and Class I/III anti-arrhythmic drug (AAD) utilization following HC.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare the efficacy of a new 1 L polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate (1 L PEG+ASC) bowel prep against the traditional 4 L polyethylene glycol (4 L PEG) for colonoscopy cleansing.
  • Results showed that 1 L PEG+ASC had a higher overall cleansing success rate (91.8%) compared to 4 L PEG (83.6%), especially for cleansing the right colon.
  • Both preparations had similar rates of tolerability, safety, and adenoma detection, indicating that 1 L PEG+ASC is a more effective option without compromising patient comfort.

Article Synopsis
  • IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a serious kidney disease linked to IgA buildup, and a large study identified 30 genetic risk factors associated with it.
  • Fourteen new loci were discovered that suggest a connection between genetic influences and abnormal IgA levels.
  • The research highlights inflammation-related pathways and potential drug targets, revealing that higher genetic risk scores are tied to earlier kidney failure.
