Osteoporosis in Adrenal Insufficiency: Could Metformin be Protective?

Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is a serious disorder characterized by the adrenal glucocorticoid deficiency. Regardless of the etiology, AI patients need long-term replacement therapy for glucocorticoids and, in some cases, for mineralocorticoids. The replacement therapy cannot completely mirror the physiological secretion patterns, and therefore, glucocorticoid excess is a common sequela in AI patients.

Superconductive Coupling Effects in Selectively Grown Topological Insulator-Based Three-Terminal Junctions.

The combination of an ordinary s-type superconductor with three-dimensional topological insulators creates a promising platform for fault-tolerant topological quantum computing circuits based on Majorana braiding. The backbone of the braiding mechanism are three-terminal Josephson junctions. It is crucial to understand the transport in these devices for further use in quantum computing applications.

Molecular Order Induced Charge Transfer in a C-Topological Insulator Moiré Heterostructure.

We synthesized and spectroscopically investigated monolayer (ML) C on the topological insulator (TI) BiTe. This C/BiTe heterostructure is characterized by an excellent translational order in a novel (4 × 4) C superstructure on a (9 × 9) cell of BiTe. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) of C/BiTe reveals that ML C accepts electrons from the TI at room temperature, but no charge transfer occurs at low temperatures.

Development and Validation of the Spiritual and Religious Needs Inventory for Muslim Psychiatric Inpatients: A Study in the Indonesian Context.

Spirituality care plays an important role in holistic healthcare. Our previous study found Muslim psychiatric inpatients encounter significant obstacles that hinder their ability to engage in a formal prayer practice in the hospital. To address this gap, we aimed to develop a spirituality and religious needs inventory specifically for Muslim psychiatric inpatients.

"Central retinal artery occlusion following scleral buckling surgery with gas insertion in a patient with sickle cell disease".

Purpose: To describe a case of central retinal artery occlusion following scleral buckling procedure combined with pneumoretinopexy in a patient with sickle cell (HbSC) retinopathy (SCR).

Methods: Scleral buckling procedure, combined with injection of 0.3 ml of 100% perfluoropropane (C3F8) gas in the vitreous, was performed without intra-operative complications under general anaesthesia as treatment of two separate macula-sparing rhegmatogenous retinal detachments secondary to round holes, involving superior and inferior retina respectively, in the right eye of a 26-year-old Afro-Caribbean female with sickle cell disease.
