The role of 1-Deoxysphingolipids and Polyamines in the pathogenesis of placental syndrome.

Background: Placental syndrome, mainly composed of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, has an impact on the health of mother and baby dyads. While impaired placentation is central to their pathophysiology, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study investigates the association between placental syndrome and metabolic alterations in 1-deoxysphingolipids (1-deoxySLs) and polyamines, along with their regulatory enzymes.

Promising Anticancer Activity of Pyrazole Compounds against Glioblastoma Multiforme: Their Synthesis, In vitro, and Molecular Docking Studies.

Background: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), a highly aggressive and prevalent brain cancer with a higher incidence in males, has limited treatment success due to drug resistance, inadequate targeting and penetration of cancer cells, and an incomplete understanding of its molecular pathways. GBM is a highly aggressive brain cancer with limited treatment options. This study investigates the anticancer potential of synthesized pyrazole compounds against GBM cells.

Ethics Consultation in U.S. Pediatric Hospitals: Adherence to National Practice Standards.

Background: The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), a professional organization that certifies ethics consultants who pass the qualifying examination, published standards for the conduct of ethics consultations (EC). A national survey of adult hospital ethics consultants identified adherence to these standards, but no assessment of pediatric hospitals' adherence has been done.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a national questionnaire was distributed electronically in 2022 to pediatric ethics consultants at children's hospitals, collecting information about adherence to the ASBH standards.

Haploinsufficiency of lysosomal enzyme genes in Alzheimer's disease.

There is growing evidence suggesting that the lysosome or lysosome dysfunction is associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Pathway analysis of post mortem brain-derived proteomic data from AD patients shows that the lysosomal system is perturbed relative to similarly aged unaffected controls. However, it is unclear if these changes contributed to the pathogenesis or are a response to the disease.

Navigating Uncertainty during Family Meetings in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit: A Qualitative Investigation of Team Communication and Family Engagement.

Context: Uncertainty is a known barrier to effective communication during family meetings in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (CICU), however, limited data has characterized patterns of communication during these meetings, limiting our ability to make best practice recommendations to clinicians.

Objectives: To characterize how uncertainty is communicated by cardiac critical care teams during family meetings, to characterize family responses to uncertainty, and to explore how expressions of uncertainty impact specific responses.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 58 family meetings recorded in a pediatric CICU.
