Article Synopsis
  • Climate change and urbanization have heightened flood risks, leading to the establishment of "The Loss and Damage Fund" during COP 28 to help low-income countries recover from climate impacts.
  • A proposed framework utilizes remote sensing and geospatial data to effectively allocate resources for flood recovery, factoring in flood hazards, building exposure, and population exposure.
  • An analysis of the September 2023 flood in Thessaly, Greece, identified Palamas as needing the most resources, with an exposure index of 5/8, demonstrating the framework's utility for swift government decision-making in post-flood scenarios.

Cellular senescence is a permanent cell cycle arrest that can be triggered by both internal and external genotoxic stressors, such as telomere dysfunction and DNA damage. The execution of senescence is mainly by two pathways, p16/RB and p53/p21, which lead to CDK4/6 inhibition and RB activation to block cell cycle progression. While the regulation of p53/p21 signaling in response to DNA damage and other insults is well-defined, the regulation of the p16/RB pathway in response to various stressors remains poorly understood.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is proliferating and developing faster than any domain scientist can adapt. To support the scientific enterprise in the Helmholtz association, a network of AI specialists has been set up to disseminate AI expertise as an infrastructure among domain scientists. As this effort exposes an evolutionary step in science organization in Germany, this article aspires to describe our setup, goals, and motivations.

Male hypogonadism is a condition in which the body does not produce enough testosterone, resulting in symptoms such as depressed mood, decreased sex drive, decreased skeletal muscle, and increased fat mass. Male hypogonadism can be readily treated with many available treatments when clinically indicated. The advent of readily available testosterone therapy has increased the importance of finding the most efficacious and cost-efficient treatment modality to approach these patients.
