Article Synopsis
  • Diamond's unique properties make it ideal for quantum and electronic tech, but its growth on other materials is limited, affecting technology integration.
  • The researchers developed a method to directly bond single-crystal diamond membranes to various materials, achieving minimal contamination and consistent quality.
  • Their ultra-thin diamond membranes show potential for high-performance quantum applications and compatibility with advanced microscopy techniques, paving the way for new hybrid systems in technology.

Article Synopsis
  • ER stress leads to overall repression of protein synthesis in cells, complicating understanding of localized translation effects.
  • Live-cell imaging revealed that translation at mitochondria is surprisingly protected during ER stress, linked to the ATAD3A protein's interaction with the PERK protein.
  • The binding of ATAD3A to PERK reduces local PERK signaling, enabling some mitochondrial proteins to continue being expressed despite the stress response.

In this article, building on our multidisciplinary expertise on philosophy, anthropology, and social study of microbes, we discuss and analyze new approaches to justice that have emerged in thinking with more-than-human contexts: microbes, animals, environments and ecosystems. We situate our analysis in theory of and practical engagements with antimicrobial resistance and climate emergency that both can be considered super-wicked problems. In offering solutions to such problems, we discuss a more-than-human justice orientation, seeking to displace human exceptionalism while still engaging with human social justice issues.
