In cases in which vision cannot be restored and the eye is a source of pain, removal of the eye may be indicated. In mammals, enucleation is the most common procedure performed; however, due to the distinct anatomical features of the avian eye, evisceration may be the preferred method in these species. The large globe size and rigid sclera leave the bird with a large sunken eye socket, which may cause the bird to become unbalanced and is not cosmetically appealing.

Endothelial cell-derived extracellular microvesicles (EMVs) have emerged as a biomarker of cardiovascular disease risk, progression and severity. The aims were to determine: 1) if circulating EMV levels are elevated in adults with obesity; and 2) whether circulating EMVs are associated with obesity-related endothelial vasomotor dysfunction. Thirty-six sedentary, midlife adults (45-63 years) were studied: 18 adults with normal weight (12M/6F; age: 56±6 yr; BMI: 23.

Toileting behaviors are recognized as potential contributors to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in women. This study examines the association between toileting behaviors and LUTS among community-dwelling women and whether age modifies these associations. Cross-sectional analyses were conducted using baseline data from a population-based cohort study, RISE FOR HEALTH (RISE).

Synaptic terminal density is thought to influence cognitive function and neural activity, yet its role in cognition has not been explored in healthy humans. We examined these relationships using [11C]UCB-J positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in 25 healthy adults performing cognitive function tasks in the scanner. We found a significant positive association between synaptic terminal density, indicated by [11C]UCB-J PET distribution volume ratio (DVRcs), and neural activity during task switching (PLS-CA, second canonical component, = 0.

Background: Individuals with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) and mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety have complex health needs and experience significant challenges with care coordination. Approaches to enhance care for patients with MCCs typically focus on eliciting patients' values to identify and align treatment priorities across patients and providers. However, these efforts are often hindered by both systems- and patient-level barriers, which are exacerbated for patients with co-occurring mental health symptoms.
