Increased vascular leakage and endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction are major features of neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we investigated the mechanisms leading to EC dysregulation and asked whether altered mitochondrial dynamics in ECs impinge on vascular barrier integrity and neurodegeneration. We show that ocular hypertension, a major risk factor to develop glaucoma, induced mitochondrial fragmentation in retinal capillary ECs accompanied by increased oxidative stress and ultrastructural defects.

During crystallization, helical water columns spontaneously form, selectively recognizing one enantiomer of the silver complex. This enantiospecific interaction drives the separation of the and enantiomers, leading to the formation of enantiopure crystals, whose chirality was confirmed through X-ray crystallography.

Aiming to develop new sustainable solutions, this study explored the synergistic application of enzymatic treatment and sourdough fermentation to re-cycle industrial bread by-products for new sourdough bread making. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum SD69.
