We use MRA to elucidate a potential association of unilateral optic atrophy in infancy, ipsilateral internal carotid artery narrowing after extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and ipsilateral hypoplasia of the A1 segment of the anterior cerebral artery.

Combined orbital proptosis and exudative retinal detachment as initial manifestations of acute myeloid leukemia.

We report bilateral orbital and choroidal involvement as the presenting sign of acute myeloid leukemia in a 2-year-old white girl. The patient presented with painless proptosis and subconjunctival hemorrhage. Ophthalmic examination and magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral leukemic infiltrates of the orbits and choroid, with an exudative retinal detachment in the right eye.

Improving the reproducibility of the Gleason scores in small foci of prostate cancer--suggestion of diagnostic criteria for glandular fusion.

High upgrading rates of Gleason score 6 to 7 carcinomas between biopsy and radical prostatectomy specimens may be produced by change of fused glands of pattern 3 to pattern 4. Therefore, inter-observer reproducibility of fused and non-fused glands in biopsy specimens was analysed. Images of H&E stained slides of glands of carcinomas with Gleason score 6 and 7 (3 + 4) with and without glandular fusions with different lens magnification were analysed by 4 specialized genitourinary pathologists and 3 non-specialized pathologists.

Violation of the ISNT rule in Nonglaucomatous pediatric optic disc cupping.

Purpose: To determine whether nonglaucomatous optic disc cupping in children violates the ISNT rule (which states that for normal optic discs the neuroretinal rim width is greatest in the order inferior >or= superior >or= nasal >or= temporal).

Methods: Digital ocular fundus photographs from a random cohort of children with large optic disc cups of nonglaucomatous origin were analyzed in masked fashion by using computer graphic software. The diameter and perimeter of each optic disc and optic cup and the width of the neuroretinal rim were drawn and measured.
