Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to validate the effectiveness of autoplanning in whole breast irradiation across various clinical practices and complex cases, involving 24 centers and 240 patients.
  • Results showed equivalent target dosimetry between autoplans and manually generated plans, with significant reductions in doses to critical organs, leading to clinician preferences for autoplans in more cases.
  • The findings suggest that while autoplanning reduces the manual workload and improves outcomes, adjustments may be needed in some cases to increase clinician satisfaction with the automated plans.

Purpose: The aim of this methods work is to explore the different behavior of radiomic features resulting by using or not the contrast medium in chest CT imaging of non-small cell lung cancer.

Methods: Chest CT scans, unenhanced and contrast-enhanced, of 17 patients were selected from images collected as part of the staging process. The major T1-T3 lesion was contoured through a semi-automatic approach.

Purpose: This work describes a new form of the calibration curve for radiochromic dosimetry that depends on one fit parameter. Some results are reported to show that the new curve performs as well as those previously used and, more importantly, significantly reduces the dependence on the lot of films, the film orientation on the scanner, and the time after exposure.

Methods: The form of the response curve makes use of the net optical densities ratio against the dose and has been studied by means of the Beer-Lambert law and a simple modeling of the film.

Purpose: Triple channel algorithm and specific procedures make more reliable radiochromic dosimetry for treatment planning verification and quality assurance in radiation therapy. A tool to obtain radiochromic dose distributions and compare them with the ones resulting from a treatment planning system was developed and applied.

Methods: The tool was developed as Microsoft Excel macro; it builds dose calibration curves against net optical density of Gafchromic EBT3 film, produces axial, coronal and sagittal dose maps and allows to evaluate them against dose distributions calculated by the Varian treatment planning system Eclipse using gamma index and gamma angle.

Article Synopsis
  • A multicenter study compared the effectiveness of two doses of 131-iodine (1850 MBq vs. 3700 MBq) for thyroid ablation in differentiated thyroid cancer patients who were prepped with recombinant human TSH (rhTSH).
  • Both doses achieved a high successful ablation rate of around 88.9%, with similar undetectable serum thyroglobulin levels in the two groups.
  • The study concluded that a lower dose of 1850 MBq is just as effective as the higher dose for thyroid ablation in patients, including those with node metastases.
