Background/objectives: Tissue remodeling, including dense eosinophil infiltration, is essential for forming inflammatory nasal polyps (NPs) and the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Toxic eosinophil major basic protein (MBP) damages the sinus mucosa epithelium and lamina propria, which initiates reparative processes leading to tissue remodeling. MBP specifically binds to BMK-13 antibodies allowing immunohistochemical (IHC) tissue staining for eosinophils.

Background: In this review article, we aimed to discuss the pathogenesis of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in patients with different forms of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), with special reference to the connection of the immune response of the nasal and middle ear mucosa and inner ear structures.

Methods: Articles for this review were identified using PubMed and Google© Scholar databases.

Results: Different phenotypes of CRS may be associated with impaired function of the inner and outer cells of the organ of Corti.

Choanal polyps (CPs) are benign, inflammatory, solitary lesions extending toward the junction between the nasal cavity/paranasal sinus and the nasopharynx through the choana. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and histological characteristics of CPs in children compared to adult patients. Characteristics of patients (demography, main complaints, side, localization, surgical approach, histological characteristics, accompanying chronic rhinosinusitis [CRS], association with allergic rhinitis [AR] and aspirin sensitivity, postoperative follow-up period, recurrence rates) were retrospectively reviewed.

Introduction: Leiomyosarcoma (LMS), together with smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) and benign leiomyomas, belongs to a heterogeneous group of uterine neoplasms. According to the World Health Organization, tumors originating from uterine smooth muscle fibers are the second most frequent tumors. It is challenging to distinguish between STUMP and LMS because of an overlap of symptoms, lack of a precise definition, and unequivocal information obtained using imaging diagnostic methods.
