Gastric schwannoma: a case report and literature review.

Schwannomas are generally benign, slow growing tumors, which can originate from any nerve that has a Schwann cell sheath. Digestive tract schwannomas are rare and are usually asymptomatic. We present the case of a 48-year-old woman with a symptomatic submucosal tumour of the gastric antrum.

Pedunculated cecal lipoma causing colo-colonic intussusception: a rare case report.

Colonic lipomas are uncommon nonepithelial neoplasms that are typically sessile, asymptomatic and incidentally found during endoscopy, surgery, or autopsy. We present a very rare case of a 34-year-old female patient with symptomatic pedunculated cecal lipoma causing intermittent colo-colonic intussusception. Despite adequate imaging studies, definite preoperative diagnosis was not established and the patient underwent exploratory laparotomy.

Repair of a giant inguinoscrotal hernia.

Giant inguinoscrotal herniae are infrequent in developed countries nowadays, nonetheless they may still typically present after years of neglect. The morbidity associated with them can be significant. Surgical management, although challenging even for the experienced surgeon, enables the patient to return to a reasonable level of function and quality of life.

Spleen rupture due to primary angiosarcoma: a case report.

A case of a 79-year-old female with rupture of the spleen due to primary angiosarcoma is presented. Symptoms were non-specific. Diagnosis was based on histology postoperatively.

Gastric perforation and death after the insertion of an intragastric balloon.

We report a case of a patient who presented with an acute abdomen 2 days after the insertion of an intragastric balloon system and discuss in detail the advantages and drawbacks of these devices in the therapy of morbid obesity. A 43-year-old morbidly obese man was admitted to the department of surgery in shock with a 2-h history of severe diffuse abdominal pain and the initial diagnosis of visceral perforation. The patient had been subjected to intragastric placement of an inflatable balloon 48 h prior to his presentation.
