Two siblings, a brother and a sister, with ligneous conjunctivitis and hydrocephalus coursing in parallel were described. Both conditions developed during the first year of life. Surgery for hydrocephalus was carried out in both children and conjunctivitis gradually subsided.

Owing to the widespread application, it has been possible to establish the advantages and disadvantages of this method of treatment. Keeping in mind the disadvantages (primarily the toxicity of cyanoacrylate glue for the corneal endothelium and lens when it comes into direct contact with these structures), the application of cyanoacrylate glue was restricted to the treatment of progressive corneal ulcerations where the risk of corneal perforation was recognized.

The disease is diagnosed usually between 20 and 50 years of life, and its etiology remains obscure. During the clinical course and evolution of pellucid marginal corneal degeneration, acute hydrops with corneal edema in the lower half may develop (acute pellucid marginal corneal degeneration).
