The introduction of a large predatory snow crab, , into the Kara Sea is a unique situation where the impact of an invasive species affecting an otherwise undisturbed ecosystem can be observed unhindered by other ecosystem stressors. Trophic interactions are one of the principal relationships between animals and can help assess an ecosystem's stability. The trophic positions and sources of organic material for the most common benthic species of Blagopoluchiya Bay sampled at different stages of the invasion were calculated using stable isotope analysis.

We study physical mechanisms of the Tumen River water transport in the area of the Posyet Bay (Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan). This study is based on the satellite and in situ measurements, and numerical simulation of advection of river water by the current velocity simulated by Regional Ocean Model System (ROMS). The importance of this study is in identification of the reasons of the transport of pollutants into the area of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve.

The longitudinal monitoring of patient circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) provides a powerful method for tracking the progression, remission, and recurrence of several types of cancer. Often, clinical and research approaches involve the manual review of individual liquid biopsy reports after sampling and genomic testing. Here, we describe a process developed to integrate techniques utilized in data science within a cancer research framework.

Since the discovery of streptomycin, actinomycetes have been a useful source for new antibiotics, but there have been diminishing rates of new finds since the 1960s. The decreasing probability of identifying new active agents led to reduced interest in soil bacteria as a source for new antibiotics. At the same time, actinomycetes remain a promising reservoir for new active molecules.

The analytical solution for the displacements of an anisotropic piezoelectric material in the uniform electric field is presented for practical use in the "global excitation mode" of piezoresponse force microscopy. The solution is given in the Wolfram Mathematica interactive program code, allowing the derivation of the expression of the piezoresponse both in cases of the anisotropic and isotropic elastic properties. The piezoresponse's angular dependencies are analyzed using model lithium niobate and barium titanate single crystals as examples.
