Reconstruction of Cylindrical Surfaces Using Digital Image Correlation.

A technique for the reconstruction of cylindrical surfaces using optical images with an extension of least squares matching is presented. This technique is based on stereo-image acquisition of a cylindrical object, and it involves displacing the camera following the object length. The basic concept behind this technique is that variations in the camera viewpoint over a cylindrical object produce perspective effects similar to a conic section in an image sequence.

A Backpack-Mounted Omnidirectional Camera with Off-the-Shelf Navigation Sensors for Mobile Terrestrial Mapping: Development and Forest Application.

The use of Personal Mobile Terrestrial System (PMTS) has increased considerably for mobile mapping applications because these systems offer dynamic data acquisition with ground perspective in places where the use of wheeled platforms is unfeasible, such as forests and indoor buildings. PMTS has become more popular with emerging technologies, such as miniaturized navigation sensors and off-the-shelf omnidirectional cameras, which enable low-cost mobile mapping approaches. However, most of these sensors have not been developed for high-accuracy metric purposes and therefore require rigorous methods of data acquisition and data processing to obtain satisfactory results for some mapping applications.

Vertical Optical Scanning with Panoramic Vision for Tree Trunk Reconstruction.

This paper presents a practical application of a technique that uses a vertical optical flow with a fisheye camera to generate dense point clouds from a single planimetric station. Accurate data can be extracted to enable the measurement of tree trunks or branches. The images that are collected with this technique can be oriented in photogrammetric software (using fisheye models) and used to generate dense point clouds, provided that some constraints on the camera positions are adopted.

Axillary node metastasis from differentiated thyroid carcinoma with Hürthle and signet ring cell differentiation. A case of disseminated thyroid cancer with peculiar histologic findings.

Background: Differentiated thyroid cancer is usually associated with an excellent prognosis and indolent course. Distant metastases are rare events at the onset of thyroid cancer. Among these presentations, metastasis to the axillary lymph nodes is even more unusual: only few cases were previously reported in the literature; there has been no report of axillary lymph node metastasis from follicular thyroid carcinoma.

Metastatic breast carcinoma to parathyroid adenoma on fine needle cytology sample: report of a case.

Metastases to the thyroid gland diagnosed by means of fine needle cytology or by excision have been reported in the literature. To our knowledge, metastatic neoplasms to the parathyroid gland have never been described up to now. In this article, we introduce a rare case of metastatic breast carcinoma to a parathyroid adenoma in a 56-year-old woman, which clinically simulated a left thyroid nodule.
