Background: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is the most severe and disabling stroke, accounting for up to 50% of the cases in low-to-middle-income countries. High rates of cognitive decline and dementia follow acute ICH, due to the common underlying vasculopathy of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). The international clinical trial, TRIDENT (Triple therapy prevention of Recurrent Intracerebral Disease EveNts Trial), aims to determine the effectiveness of the fixed low-dose Triple Pill combination of blood pressure-lowering agents (telmisartan 20 mg, indapamide 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The Cognitive Domains and Functional Assessment Questionnaire (CDFAQ) evaluates cognitive and functional decline in older adults, based on DSM-5 criteria, and is validated against the IQCODE-LV.
  • A study with 196 informants sorted by educational levels (low, middle, and high) assessed the accuracy of CDFAQ-IV, revealing varied levels of accuracy across different cognitive domains.
  • Overall, the CDFAQ performed well, especially in attention and memory areas for all educational groups, indicating its potential utility for assessing neurocognitive disorders in a diverse population.

Article Synopsis
  • The Cognitive Domains and Functional Assessment Questionnaire (CDFAQ) evaluates cognitive and functional decline in older adults based on DSM-5 criteria and has been validated against another cognitive assessment (IQCODE-LV).
  • The study involved 196 older adults to see how well CDFAQ can predict cognitive impairment as measured by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), considering factors like age and years of education.
  • Results showed that higher CDFAQ scores correlated with a greater likelihood of cognitive impairment (with an odds ratio of 1.039), while more years of education decreased that likelihood, indicating that education and cognitive assessment scores are important in predicting cognitive decline.
