Bioactive coatings on VT1-0 commercially pure titanium were formed by the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). A study of the morphological features of coatings was carried out using scanning electron microscopy. A composition of formed coatings was investigated using energy-dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry analysis.

Several generations of carbosilane dendrimers with quaterthiophene end groups were studied by X-ray scattering in small and wide angles, differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical and atomic force microscopy and molecular modelling. It was established that the semiconducting properties of such materials are determined by the formation of smectic structures in which aliphatic regions, possessing a low degree of the ordering, alternate with highly ordered herring-bone type crystallites formed by aromatic fragments. The presence of long aliphatic spacers in the dendrimers' structure allows easy formation of such crystallites.

Background: Exposure to metals via air sampling in workplace has been extensively studied; however, the magnitude of individual exposure in various occupational groups may vary dramatically. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to ascertain exposure to selected metals from metal fumes in a series of typical workplaces of contemporary tractor production.

Methods: Ninety-eight (median age 41 (interquartile range (IQR) 23) years, all men) workers from Minsk Tractor Plant were categorized into four groups, including assembly shop workers (group 1); thermal shop staff (group 2); steelmakers (group 3) and welders (group 4).

The International Conference on Primary Health Care, held at Alma-Ata, present-day Kazakhstan, in September 1978, was a landmark in global health care. The Declaration of Alma-Ata that was adopted at that conference successfully refocused attention and energy on primary health care. In a similar manner, the United Nations resolution of 2006 highlighted the dangers of the diabetes pandemic.

C(60) was reacted in the ionization chamber of a mass spectrometer under electron impact (EI) with aldehydes, RCHO (R = Ph, p-FC(6)H(4), F(5)C(6), p-MeOC(6)H(4), α-thienyl, o-HOC(6)H(4), o-BrC(6)H(4), m-BrC(6)H(4) and t-Bu), with the transfer of R• radicals and with Me•-transfer from i-PrCHO and t-BuCHO. Paramagnetic fullerene derivatives were stabilized by the addition of the next R• radical or a hydrogen atom, or hydrogen or bromine atom loss. A detailed study showed that the reaction between C(60) and PhCHO occurred via a homolytic mechanism that matches one reported earlier for the reaction with acetone.
